Every morning, the village langur troop — long-tailed, silver-gray monkeys with expressive black faces — descended from the trees to scavenge for food. They were clever, agile, and full of attitude. But the village dogs, known for guarding homes and chasing anything that moved, didn’t take kindly to the langurs’ mischievous nature.
And in the center of this tension was a bold, temperamental langur named Raka and a muscular, alpha village dog named Bittu.
Raka wasn’t just another monkey — he was fearless, territorial, and a bit of a troublemaker. He’d steal food right from the villagers’ porches, throw stones at dogs from tree branches, and once even tore down a drying bedsheet just for fun.
Bittu, on the other hand, was respected and feared by the other dogs. He was fast, sharp-eyed, and never let a monkey get too close. Whenever the langurs crossed a certain line, Bittu was the first to bark, chase, and defend the boundaries.
One afternoon, the air was thick with heat and tension. Raka and his troop had gathered on a rooftop, eyeing some bananas left near a window. As they crept closer, the dogs below growled low and slow. Bittu, standing like a statue near the well, locked eyes with Raka.
Suddenly, Raka leapt down, grabbed a banana, and slapped it against the ground — a bold provocation.
Bittu charged.
The troop screeched and scattered into the trees, but not Raka. He stood his ground. With a defiant posture and a loud angry bark-like screech, Raka slapped the ground again. The chase was on.
Bittu lunged, and Raka zipped across the dirt path, bouncing off the wall of a hut and onto a pile of firewood. Bittu snapped at his heels, but the monkey was too fast, too clever. He swung from a hanging towel, landing back on the ground, then leapt sideways — where another dog had circled behind him.
Now it was dog vs monkey — from two sides.
But Raka was a fighter. He lunged at one dog, baring his teeth, and smacked its snout with both hands. The dog yelped and backed off. He spun and darted to a tree, but Bittu blocked his path.
With no time to climb, Raka did something no one expected — he stood upright, raised his arms, and let out a shriek so loud, it startled even the humans watching from their windows. It was a sound of pure monkey rage.
Bittu paused. His ears twitched. And then… he backed down.
Raka, breathing hard, scrambled up the nearest branch and disappeared into the canopy. The dogs barked, pacing and frustrated, but the monkey was gone.
The villagers laughed, clapped, and shared stories of the fight. Some cheered for Bittu’s bravery. Others admired Raka’s spirit. For days, children re-enacted the scene — “Monkey vs Dog!” they shouted, playing in the streets.
