Without warning, Daisy begins to strike Dito with quick, sharp slaps. It isn’t play—it’s serious. Her face shows signs of agitation, and her actions are firm and relentless. Poor Dito cries out, his tiny voice trembling with confusion and hurt. He doesn’t understand why the one who’s supposed to protect him is now pushing him away.
This scene is incredibly difficult to watch. Dito tries again and again to crawl toward his mother’s belly, hoping for just a few seconds of milk. But each time, Daisy blocks him with no mercy. She growls, she glares, and she beats him back. Eventually, Dito gives up and sits in the corner, sobbing quietly. It’s a moment that breaks your heart into pieces.
Why is this happening? Sometimes, mother monkeys may reject or become aggressive toward their young for reasons we may not fully understand—stress, illness, or dominance within the group. In Daisy’s case, she may be overwhelmed, or possibly preparing to care for another baby. Regardless of the reason, the pain baby Dito feels is very real.
Our team is keeping a close eye on Dito after this incident. We are providing him comfort, nutrition, and as much emotional support as we can. His spirit is strong, and even after being pushed away, he still looks for kindness—proof of how resilient these babies truly are.
