But even in the best friendships, little fights can happen — and one sunny afternoon, the drama unfolded over something as simple as a piece of juicy watermelon.
It was snack time at the sanctuary. The caretakers had just brought out slices of fresh watermelon, a treat the monkeys loved, especially on hot days. LiBi had grabbed her favorite piece and sat under the shade of a low tree, happily munching away. Dan, however, was still looking for the biggest, juiciest slice. He scanned the area but quickly noticed that LiBi’s chunk was the best — thick, red, and sweet.
Temptation got the better of him.
In a flash, Dan rushed over and — without warning — grabbed the remaining piece of watermelon right out of LiBi’s mouth! The poor girl was left wide-eyed and shocked, her mouth still open in disbelief. She let out an angry screech and stomped off, her feelings clearly hurt. Dan, chewing slowly, began to realize what he had done.
LiBi refused to play with him. She sat on a distant branch, arms folded and face turned away. Even when Dan tried to approach her, she looked the other way. The caretakers watched with quiet smiles — they knew Dan had messed up and would need to make it right.
Later that afternoon, Dan decided to apologize. He picked up a small banana — LiBi’s second favorite treat — and slowly made his way toward her. Holding the fruit gently in his hands, he let out a soft cooing sound, a sign of peace. At first, LiBi ignored him, but when she saw the banana and Dan’s apologetic eyes, she paused.
Dan placed the banana in front of her and gently bowed his head — his way of saying sorry. LiBi hesitated, then took the banana, peeling it and taking a slow bite. Dan sat quietly next to her, not saying a word. After a few minutes, LiBi leaned over and touched his arm — forgiveness had been given.
Within moments, the two were back to grooming each other, as if nothing had happened. Their friendship, though shaken for a moment, had grown stronger. And the watermelon incident became just another funny story in the lives of two mischievous monkeys.
